[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Hershel Layton. Also known as Professor Hershel Layton or Professor Layton for short.
Age: 38. (His age is around this, this is the age he'll be telling people if they ask).
Gender: Male
Fandom: Professor Layton Series (video games and film)
Timeline: During the ending of Professor Layton and the Lost Future (Unwound Future in the US). Just as Luke runs off to chase a disappearing Claire.
Character History: This should do the trick!

Character Personality:
One thing that can be said about Professor Layton is that he is a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He is polite and has extremely good manners. He very rarely gets angry, and only sighs or remains completely silent when he is. He has a sense of decorum about him. There's not an aggressive bone in his body; though in unavoidable situations which call for for it he will take action, but rather reluctantly.

He is courteous and helpful to everyone. He is especially polite to ladies and young women and shows great respect to people with great intellect. He is calm and collected, never panicking or having emotional outburst even in the most dire situations. His kindness can come as a disadvantage though; if he is stopped in the middle of doing something - even if he's in a hurry - he won't blow the person off, he will help them even if it means getting sidetracked by what he originally set out to do. He also is nice to even some of the rudest people. He has difficulty saying no to requests. He's not a pushover, but he believes that everyone deserves politeness and kindness shown towards them. He doesn't prejudge or listen to rumours about people and believes that everyone deserves a chance, no matter who they are.

He's a very private man, and doesn't tend to talk about himself very much, despite wanting to solve everyone else's problems he likes to keep his to himself. It's a bit hypocritical of him, but he has his reasons. That and he doesn't really want to burden people with them.

One of the most noticeable things about Layton is his passion for puzzles. He has thousands upon thousands of puzzles stored in his head which - usually when something reminds him of one - he will spring on others who show a keen interest to see if they can answer it. He loves seeing peoples' brains tick over a good puzzle and he loves finding new ones to work out himself. He'll never leave a puzzle unsolved no matter how small it may be.

Despite his intelligence he can be quite clueless when it comes to other peoples' emotions. He never understood why Don Paolo hated him, probably because whatever it was wasn't something he would get mad about. When Dahlia Reinhold referred to her cat as "her poor baby", Layton was confused as to who she'd be referring to even though he saw the distressed cat running out the door seconds prior.

Layton is also your very typical early 19th century Englishman. He likes tea and delicate foods like cakes and scones; wearing a huge top hat which he tips in greeting to people and is very well dressed. He's also a very modest man - being famous for solving puzzles, though he doesn't really acknowledge this.

Character Abilities you would like to expand on further:
Layton is a Professor of archaeology at the London-based Gressenheller University. He has extremely high intellect and logical as well as critical thinking. He has shown throughout the games that he can solve even the most difficult of puzzles that no ordinary person could solve. Because of this he has become renowned for his work and receives letters from people asking for his help in solving mysteries.

In certain situations, he can take parts of anything and make... well just about anything! He works well under pressure and can make contraptions that get him out of even the most pickled of pickles.

Layton also has a penchant for fencing, but this is mainly for the sport of it and not for actually causing physical harm to anyone. Because of this he is in pretty good health and is very agile.

He's also known for making various teas and experimenting with different blends. He knows which ones are good for certain ailments, though he would never give an experimental tea to anyone; especially if he hasn't tried it himself.

Character Weaknesses you would like to expand on further:
Despite being a man of very high intellect and manners, Layton is not perfect. For a start he is clueless when it comes to peoples' emotions.

He's also very private and doesn't like to talk about himself, but he will involve himself in other peoples' problems. It may come off as him being nosy and prying too much but he really just wants to help. It also makes him rather hypocritical as he doesn't share his problems with others.

Because Layton is such a gentleman he puts other people before himself. Even if he's on the most exciting lead ever if someone needs some help - no matter how small - he will be there helping them before carrying on with whatever he was doing.

If he can't solve a problem, he becomes very embarrassed. Solving puzzles is a passion of his so to fail at it is something he doesn't take particularly well.

The hat Claire gave him is also a very big weakness; it's very important to him. He even customized his car - The Laytonmobile- so he could wear it while driving. Removing the hat or stealing it from him is something that would cause him a lot of distress.

Despite appearances, Layton isn't very organized. His desk is usually very cluttered and messy. His apprentice - Luke Triton - is usually the one to help keep things in order.

[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]

What abilities will your character retain in Soul Campaign? Bullet-form is fine.
Since Layton doesn't have superhuman abilities and his abilities are all based on his intellect, he will be keeping all his abilities. This does not mean to say he'll be able to solve the mystery of SC and go home though.

What weaknesses will your character lose or gain in Soul Campaign? Bullet-form is fine.
Layton will be keeping all of the weaknesses described above. Also as Layton is in a new world things won't be entirely logical, so he may find himself struggling while trying to work things out.

The wish Death the Kid made to the BREW in 2009 was to “rescue Death City and stop the waves of Madness from overtaking the world.” By whatever means necessary. Pretend you are the BREW. Why would you choose to bring this character to Death City?
While not being a fighter by nature, Layton is very intelligent. He has quick and critical thinking and can solve even the most perplexing mysteries. BREW would have seen the potential Layton has to instil his knowledge to others, solve mysteries that happen within the City and keep moral boosted by being a mentor and a good role model to those who stay behind.

[ WEAPON ONLY SECTION ]

Why is your character a Weapon and not a Meister?
Layton is a lover, not a fighter. Although he wouldn't make a bad Meister with his high intellect and logical thinking as well as his good physic, he would probably not feel comfortable picking up such dangerous Weapons to go about killing Kishin; he really isn't one to lead a fight and go off charging into the midst of battle.

However Layton can be a supportive role whilst in Weapon form as well as being an instructor to his Meister partner on how best to handle situations. He will find being a Weapon uncomfortable and the thought of being used for killing Kishin will be distressing, however he also knows that he can help those who are in need of a Weapon partner to progress further and Layton loves helping everyone he can.

What is your character’s Weapon Form? Why?
Since Layton took on the sport of Fencing, it seemed apt that he would become a Fencing Sword. The handle resembles his top hat and has the name "Claire" engraved in gold script font.

What is your character’s Weapon Ability?
If Layton's Weapon ability was to be given a name, that name would be critical thinking. It allows him to - in a sense - pour his mindset into the Meister which then enables them to think and act fast much like the Professor himself. Based on the Professor's resonance with his Meister partner, this could greatly increase their mental capabilities beyond what they would usually be capable of. A small resonance would only be able to create a slight boost though, and a bad resonance could cause the two to separate.

Because this ability instils the Professor's mindset into his Meister, resonating with a Male Meister makes it easier for them to work with others (such as group soul resonance and the like) but they will also find it difficult fighting female opponents as they have the urge to be a gentleman. If the Professor's partner is a Female he finds it much easier to resonate well with them.
